My observations from the Democratic National Convention, day one

Jimmy Carter was right on with his observation that the United States’s stature has been diminished globally under Bush’s.

Hillary is a far better one-on-one than she is a speechmaker. She was terrific this morning on Good morning America--confident, assured, even charming. This evening, on occasion, she came across a bit shrill, on occasion. It's the effort expended to be heard across the crows.

Bill, on the other hand, is, without a doubt, the greatest American orator of the past 50 years--and (my bias showing through) one of the ten best Presidents this country has had. And his speech was terrific--evenly measured, expertly delivered...absolutely thrilling.

Michael Moore sat in the audience, quiet and restrained. He didn't need to get excited. They were all speaking from his book.

It wasn't an easy day for Nana, yesterday. My sister Kerrie stayed with her, and she spent much of the time hallucinating. She thought she was on a bus, then a plane, then thought that thousand of people were staring at her in the room. Part of it's the medication, part of it is lack of oxygen, but it was really scary for Kerrie to sit through.

I'm supposed to be showing up to a rehearsal tonight. I say "supposed," because I said yes, but I've known from the start that I'm not actually going to show up, because I have qualms about the quality of the production, and know that I simply don't have the time. I know, I'm a total shit, and I feel very guilty. And I really shouldn't be this honest and write all this down, but dammit, it's the way it is, I've got too much on my plate, and this person just wouldn't take no for an answer.

Instead, I'm going to help Corb buy a car and then sit at home and watch movies. Is there a special room in hell for me?

Dad called...Nana's doing better today...they took the mask off her, and she's much more coherent. Good stuff!
