Okay, I've thought about this, and my current position is that, without any U.N. support save from Britain and Spain, it would be a huge tactical error for the United States to engage in war on Iraq.

One does not enter into war simply for the sake of entering into war, and one of the best gauges of whether the warmongering that you're contemplating is justifiable (which it rarely ever is), is whether you have built a solid consensus amongst your allies. Which hasn't happened yet, to the best of my knowledge.

There are times when entering into war is a necessity, where taking a stand despite popular opposition is at once brave and admirable. The last clear-cut case of this was World War II, which is one of the reasons that FDR is one of my personal heroes. That man had courage, and did what he believed was right (and, Japanese internment camps aside, you simply cannot cut down the legacy of a man who saved our country not once but twice).

I don't see that as the case here.

(Notice I didn't not once mention Bush in any way, shape, or form.)

Tomorrow night I have another date. We're meeting at five for coffee in Providence, and we'll see what happens from there.

The date's not with Peter, but someone else. His name is Maurice. He appears to be quite good looking, blue eyes, about 32 years old, in good shape. He is employed as a computer designer, something to do with architecture (you know me, my eyes start to glaze over when the talk gets too technical. But I know he doesn't actually design houses himself. He says it's "just a job.") Has two cats. Really into decorating and gardening.

I don't know. We'll see how things go. This has the potential to be a complete disaster...or, it could be something else the exact opposite of disastrous. I don't think it'll be in between, for some reason.

I have no idea how things will turn out. The conversation today was somewhat stilted. We both seemed somewhat nervous. For my part, I was in the bedroom and it just felt...odd. But an okay odd.

I shall keep you posted, dear diary.
