“It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt

I really do believe in the power of making resolutions at the start of a new year. I'd better, I've only been writing about it professionally for the past eight years.

And it's true: if you set a goal for yourself at the start of the year, at the very least, you're thinking about where you want to go and maybe setting at least rough plans in motion for how to get there. Studies have shown, too, people who make resolutions tend to feel at the end of the year better about the direction they ended up in, and more positive about their future.

With that said, here are my personal resolutions for the year ahead. You don't need to read it, I just want to post it so I have it out there. That's always a good thing, too. And it doesn't mean I will beat myself up if I don't get there by the end of the year, and it also means I have put in some (what I call) hedonistic goals for the year ahead. The term just makes me smile.

RESOLUTIONS 22

FINANCIAL

a. Support Corb’s business so it really starts to grow

b. [KEEPING THIS ONE TO MYSELF]

ARTISTIC

a. Commit to a longer-term creative project to get involved with, whether it is writing or theater.

b. One personal journal entry a week

c. I really do see reading as a creative endeavor, so I resolve to read even more in 2022. Best book read in 2021: Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. I want to read more books like THAT.

HEALTH

a. Lose weight. This Christmas season I ignored weighing myself for a month and went from 202 to almost 210 and it made me want to pass out. Wrong direction, bub.

b. On that note, walk more on the treadmill, now that it is set up! Get through Wales LOL

c. Eat healthier! No more endless streams of meals. On the plus side, holding off until 1 p.m. each day before I start eating worked really well this year, but NO eating past 8 was not a tremendous success.

d. DRIVE! I haven’t driven regularly in almost two years. It’s making me feel less than independent and I need to change that. No more Driving Miss Daisy.

HEDONISM

a. TRAVEL: Go on those two cruises in March and July, if safe and humanly possible

b. DINING: One new restaurant to experience a month

c. ADVENTURE: New places to see, one a month

Okay, 2022. Now let's see what we do with this.

Those are great resolutions!

I am concentrating on weight and exercise and yes, creative endeavors also.
