β€œIn all things of nature there is something of the marvellous.” – Aristotle

This being a long week-end, at the end of the day on Friday, as Corb was driving me home from the workstead, Corb mentioned that one of things he wanted to do was drive to Connecticut on Saturday, to a) drop off a finished lighting fixture to Matilda Titsworth's father-in-law and b) take in an open house that a friend and fellow local artisan was holding.

I thought about that for a moment. "Let's make it a little bigger," I said. "Let's just go somewhere in CT for the night. Doesn't matter where."

So, never so bright and not so early, we headed off to CT. Destination: unknown.

As we were heading to wherever, somewhere between dropping off said lighting fixture and taking in the open house, both of us felt...the Stir of Nature.

And since we were in a rather rural section of Massachusetts at the time, we decided, well, what the heck? Let's pull over to relieve ourselves.

I stood guard while Corb went to do his thing. No, no crossing streams. Then, he stood guard for me.

Can I tell you? Not for nothing, but there is nothing more freeing than wandering out into the wilderness, unleashing the kraken and peeing into the void.

Ah, nature! I hear thine precious tinkle. The sounds of the birds chirping, the sun beating down on my shoulders, the lazy bumblebee making a drunken beeline in front of me. Being surrounded completely in greenery and...letting it all flow.

Freedom, true freedom.

The rest of the mystery trip sure has been swell. Saw some nice architecture, ate some good food, walked a ton, took in a movie, stayed at a nice boutique hotel (the Goodwin, and it was very Gilded Agey), and fell asleep for the night in an incredibly comfy bed. Heaven.

Hartford is possibly the quietest city I have ever encountered, however. Must be all the insurance companies here.

And here is a fun excursion for those in the New England area: Traveler Food and Books, which serves lunch and dinner and is also a used bookstore! Diners get to leave with three books a visit. They also do a lot of book bundling.

It was nice just to head off and pee into the wind. We didn't do anything overly exciting--no mud baths or wandering with the monkeys, this time around. But even so, just getting away for a day from the house and the job and not worrying about schedules or locations or obligations...and just going wherever, free of destination or obligation or recommendation...there is nothing better in the world.

I bet I was a butterfly in another life. Probably will be, someday, again.

Sometimes, when you want to shake things up a little: wander, for as much as your heart can stand.
