tedwordsOkay, so I had an of night last night, and so I watched American Idol .
And I really have to tell you. Maybe it's just the fact that I've been so wrapped up with things this year...but, I really didn't care much. It seemed obvious to me, just watching the show, who was going to picked for the Final Two, and the whole hour just seemed one big exercise in padding and product placement.
Oh, look. Here's Taylor Hicks receiving adulation in his hometown. Oh, look! Now the three Idols are shilling for...hmm, was it Ford? Oh, no he's singing a song to promote the American Idol CD. Oh, now it's Katharine McPhee's turn to do the same thing. And then, Elliott Yamin, a guy who's got this Oedipal thing going on. Oh, look! And then, Clive David comes on for a totally gratuitous award where he proceeds to promote all the past Idol winners.
And, in the last five minutes, we actually get...the obvious! Although, oh yes, it was really close. But is that because everyone's so talented, or just because, everyone's really just not that exciting to begin with; no one's really made that much of an impression.
Maybe it's easy to be on the outside, looking in. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible. I just wouldn't be rushing out to buy one of these finalists CDs any time soon.
My pick to win, for what it's worth: Katherine McPhee.
