The other day, Corb came home with some interesting news: "My company wants to send me to India."

Of course, my immediate inclination was to make a joke: "Sometimes, I do, too." But then I paused and asked, "Really?"

I mean, let's set aside that this is a company that's too cheap to clean up huge globs of fecal matter from its rugs (I swear, I am not making that up) and yet think nothing of flying their employees to India and other parts of the world for weeks at a time. Let's set that aside, okay? No, really, I'm trying to. Hold on...I'm almost there...

Ahem.

Beyond that, I really am quite thrilled for Corb. I think it's a great opportunity, and it will look great on his resume. You know, for that time in his life where he doesn't have to work for a company that's too cheap to clean up huge globs of fecal matter from its rugs. Besides, it will be a new adventure, a different culture, and a chance to travel overseas. There's even talk he could spend a few days in Dubai before he arrives. That would be cool.

The only problem is, and this is a purely selfish one: how am I going to get along without him for two weeks? Maybe three!

I mean, who is going to be here at night to help me fend off the seven ghosts in Green Victoria? That's a full time job in and of itself. Oh sure, I'll have the kids here every other night and as of Thursday, a furry puppy by my side, but seriously, that's going to keep me pretty busy! Especially at night.

Oh, the nights! It's like that old ABBA song, "If It Wasn't for the Nights." What am I going to do when I wake up at two in the morning and there's nobody there next to me? Who am I going to reach over and squeeze? Who is going to comfort me, just knowing that he's right there by my side?

Or let's talk from a practical standpoint. As Theo put it when I told him, "Who's going to feed us for those two weeks? We're going to be forced to live off mashed potatoes and peanut butter jelly sandwiches!"

Seriously, my cooking skills aren't that bad! Well, yes they are.

I know, I know, this is all needless worry and those two (or THREE!) weeks will go by like nothing. Even so, Corb and I have not been apart for a two (or THREE!) weeks stretch in the past ten years. I think the longest time we've spent apart has maybe been three or four days. This is a big deal!

In other words, I am going to miss the big guy.
