My friend gandryyne reminded me of another author to add to the "these books are too damn big" list. J.K. Rowling definitely has to join Stephen King in that category. That last Harry Potter book was as big as a phone directory! Hey there, this isn't Shogun or Gone With the Wind ! My favorite fantasy writer, Susan Cooper, managed to tell each installment of the Dark is Rising saga in under 300 pages, as I recall.
