just_jordan who showed me this site, but there's a really cool Electoral College Predictor that I've been faithfully checking every day. Right now it shows Bush leading by one thin vote, but there are a few states that are dead even tied. This should make for an interesting Election night. I know that I have my map of the states hung up on the wall my TV, and I'm ready to insert donkeys and elephants wherever they need to go. I hope I get to put more donkeys up.
Anyway. I didn't get to see much of the World Series last night, because I went to a fundraiser/musical revue for the group that produced Jekyll and Hyde . I had been asked to help with the silent auction by my friend Louise, but she was in a silent rage most of the night, because she didn't feel that she received much support putting it together. I sympathized, but I have to say, it felt awfully nice to be on the outside, looking in, and being the one playing the support role.
The show was...a musical revue. It had its highs and lows, as those things do. The pianist was terrible, and couldn't keep up the pace to save her life, which was a real hindrance, especially for things like "You Can't Stop the Beat." The dancers ended up looking spastic.
I find that the older I get, the less I really like musicals. They just seem so artificial. But I did win at the silent auction--I'm getting my taxes done for free next year!
After that, Corb and I went to see The Grudge . I think that if Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to do horror movies, they should just name all her characters Buffy. I mean, is anyone going to think of her as anything else?
It was good, although parts of it didn't make a heck of a lot of sense (Now, how is it that the sister of the family moving to Japan with their mother just HAPPENED to live in Japan, too? Who took the time to cut all of the dead mommy's faces out of the photo album and pin them to the wall? How did Grace Zabriskie--who I've loved since Twin Peaks--have the time to duct tape the "bad wall"? And how was that supposed to help? ). Corb was majorly freaked out during it, and I gotta say, I was squirming, too. I thought that the filmography was excellent--it had a flat, cold, impersonal feel that fit the mood exactly, and probably made the movie scarier than it actually was. Anyway, it was perfect for this time of year.
