Pretty heavy news. I learned from Steve that Tracey tried to commit suicide, owing to the fact that Jason left him. He took two bottles of aspirin and tried to asphyxiate himself in his car. He's in Sturdy Memorial now.
Plans for tonight were awkward: played musical people and chairs. After much ado, it ended up being Nancy driving Steve and I to Lincoln Mall. Steve didn't want to tell Nancy about Tracey. We saw War Games. Afterwards, Steve and I talked about his trip to Washington and what he did. He has tried the phone trick in War Games and it works.
[2026 note: In the 1983 film WarGames, the main character, David Lightman (Matthew Broderick), uses a "phone trick" to make free calls from a payphone by grounding the microphone. He unscrews the mouthpiece and uses a small metal object—likely a paperclip or safety pin—to ground the transmitter to the phone's casing, tricking the operator into providing a free dial tone, often called "ground start."]
[2026 additional note: I don't believe Steve really did this.]
Nancy let Steve steer her car a bit, but just a bit. Steve returned my suit. He had fun but really hates Jason Gittle. Afterwards, Nancy and I talked for quite a while, just like old times.
SUNDAY 12 ENTRY: I went over Joyce's today on my bike. Had a pretty good time. Karen is moving out of the Norteman house pretty soon. She's found an apartment.
