Medfield, Cinderella
May. 28th, 1983 09:34 amWe met at the high school and Chester drove us to Medfield. Steve and I sat next to each other and tried NOT to get into a fight.
When we arrived there we had to get into make-up (and craapy make-up at that). We clearly knew more than they did but the Medfield people insisted on doing everything. Steve and I snuck into a small room and did our own nonetheless. The show was awful, very amateurish. I forgot my shoes and had to go in my suit wearing sneakers.
[2026 Note: what is it with me forgetting to bring my shoes? I do this again a few weeks later. I was very forgetful about that.]
Before the production (but after the quick run through), Steve and I went outside to wait, with a cute girl named Denise, who I can't believe was only a freshman. I had to dance with a girl who I think was on the spectrum. Steve had Pauline. There was one girl who was pissed because Pauline showed up and she needed a dance partner.
The show was awful, and afterwards, we planned to go to a pool party. But first we went to Chet's best friend's house. Her name is Holly. Pauline was a bit irritated as she just wanted to go home. We ate at Holly's and sang with her piano as well.
Steve, Pauline and I got into a conversation about the note I gave Steve. Steve told me he showed it to his sister Sandy and she said to make up with me. But that he (and he did not say it willingly) said that David or Dean must have thrown t out, probably Dean, he said. But I suspect David.
We started to the part in different cars, and I was annoyed because all Steve did was listen to his tape. So, I went into the car with Pauline, Chet and Frank. Steve got miffed and said I shouldn't have left, and we talked in the woods away from the party for a while, but he was still mad. And then Denise, who had been flirting with me before, went to him!
Holly was really nice, but the pool party was a drag. Pauline and I tried to talk to Steve together, but he still didn't want to listen. Instead, he went into the car and listened to his walkman.
We left soon after. I made him sit next to me to talk to him, but he still wouldn't talk His walkman was at top volume while Pauline and I spoke, and he then gave it to Frank while Steve and I spoke, who played it at top volume in retaliation. This irritated Steve: will you knock it off with the show tunes? Why do you do that all the time?
Steve said he didn't want to tell me my problems. Then he said "Why don't we just forget everything happened?" and everything was fine.
Chet drove me home. I met his girlfriend, who said they were just friends. She went into an impassioned soliloquy about a guy who loves her and is massively jealous, but she doesn't like him that much. I liked her a lot.
That night I got the car and took Frank, Steve and Pauline to Mr. Gs. Later, Steve and I rode around and had massive trouble with the high beams. Spent half an hour trying to turn them off.
