tedwordsOne of my favorite Christmas traditions that we've established has to be the quest for the "BIG GIFT" that we always give the kids.
The rules are fairly simple, probably a bizarre combination of "The New Treasure Hunt" (without Geoff Edwards) and the riddling game that Gollum plays with Bilbo (except without a precious at the end). Each kid receives one riddle that is set on the table next to Santa's note, and from the riddle, they have to figure out where the next clue is located. The third riddle contains the location of the present...

So, for example, with Annie, her first clue was:

Eating and drinking and being gossipy
Although your Mom and Dad wish you'd simply leave me be
I love it when you run your fingers over me! </i>
Answer: the keyboard of our computer. This led to:
<i> In your own little pigsty, in your own little world
You can place whatever you'd like to see
And this space has three mirrors, you can open them up
So just look here for little clue number three </i>
Answer: This one was fairly easy. Her medicine cabinet. And in the medicine cabinet:
<i> I haven't got a Clue
What this Life has in store
But if you get an Inkling
You won't be Sorry, that's for sure! </i>
This one stumped her a bit. The answer was, of course, that the gift was located in the game closet. When she located it, she discovered some leghair removal thing she had been pining for. Wouldn't have worked for me.

On a side note, I received some money for Christmas and used some of it to pick up a few gifts of my own last night. I was in a DVD mood, so I picked up the extended version of The Two Towers (I'm so excited about this), and a John Waters boxed set. Who woulda thunk? Pink Flamingos, Hairspray, Polyester, and one other one--for just $15...Twin Towers cost twice that, at $34. Just $15 for one of the most disgusting movies in the world--what a steal!
