My buddy Joyce sent me a copy of the Goya painting she really doesn't want me to hang in my living room...

It's one of his later pieces, one of the fourteen known as the "black paintings" that Goya decorated the dining and living rooms of his home with--called the "Quinta del Sordo", which he bought in 1819 on the banks of Madrid's Manzanares river. The painting is called "Saturn Devouring one of his Sons," and was one of the six works decorating the dining room. It depicts a mythological theme- about the god Saturn or Cronos- acting as an allegorical representation of time. The god devoured, as time does to all that it creates, the children born to his wife Cibele: he feared that one would dethrone him.

I just wrote back that the back story behind this painting is even more disturbing--that certain elements were painted out of it by another artist years after Goya's death, and that no, it will not be gracing a wall in my apartment any time soon...
